For intermediate and advanced trumpet, horn, tenor trombone, bass trombone,
euphonium, baritone and tuba students with at least three years of playing
experience. This course will offer students the opportunity to play music
from a variety of styles composed or arranged for brass ensemble. Brass
players will develop ensemble skills and explore the vast and exciting
repertoire written for brass ensembles. Part of each class period may be
spent developing fundamentals of brass playing, as well as listening to
recordings and discussing topics of interest to brass players. Emphasis
during rehearsals will be placed on balance, blend, intonation, tone
quality and technique. Brass Ensemble begins after marching band season.
Prerequisite: Telephone interview with instructor or recommendation of
private teacher. |

The group offers acoustic guitarists the opportunity to play chamber
music with other guitarists. Repertoire includes a variety of music
from the 16th through 20th centuries, scored for two or more guitars.
In addition to learning music of the classical masters and jazz
greats, students will have the opportunity to compose original pieces
for the group and also to develop and improve their improvisational
skills. The Guitar Ensemble will have opportunities to perform in
concert throughout the year.

This SATB choral ensemble for young adults focuses on all aspects of
choral and vocal technique. Repertoire includes music from all eras,
as well as quality arrangements of some popular music and vocal jazz.
Ensemble singing, blend, balance, diction, stylistic accuracy and
expressive content are thoroughly explored. SYC students will have
opportunities to perform in concert throughout the year.
Prerequisite: Placement audition; consent of the conductor. |

tune but can’t read music? This class/ensemble will teach you the unique
style of music known as barbershop a cappella four-part harmony. You will
learn vocal production techniques, breathing techniques and presentation
skills in this new and exciting program!
